Kirk Maltby signs one-year deal with Red Wings

Kirk Maltby(notes) is staying with Detroit. At least that’s his goal this season. On Wednesday, the Red Wings and Maltby agreed to a one-year deal worth $525,000. But the contract for the 37-year-old NHL veteran is a two-way deal, which means he could nfl throwback jerseys
spend some time this season in Grand Rapids.
“I think any player in the league, whether it’s a 15-year veteran or a two-year veteran or a rookie, everyone would love to have a one-way,” Maltby told the Detroit Free Press. “But it’s the nature of the beast; it’s a business as much as it’s a sport, and the Wings are no exception.”

been a constant with the Red Wings since joining the team in 1996, and it’s possible he’ll have to start the season in the AHL.
According to the Free Press, the Red Wings now have 14 forwards signed to one-way deals, so unless there’s a trade (with Drew Miller(notes) being the leading candidate to be dealt), Maltby will have to wait for a roster spot.
