11 Oct 10 How to Breed Leopard Geckos
If you are ready to try breeding leopard geckos at home, there are a few important steps that you need to take into consideration. One of the biggest things to know is that the breeding season is between February and August. Along with this, there are several other football jersey
steps that need to be taken in the breeding process:
1. You need to have a healthy male that is at least eight months old and weighs a minimum of 45 grams for the process. You will need one female that is at least a year old and weighs a minimum of 50 grams as well. You can easily have more females than males if you are looking to mass produce, but it is best to start with just one pairing first.
Provide your female extra calcium powder the first month of the breeding season and be sure to provide them a nesting box where they will be able to lay their eggs. A nesting box should be a large plastic container that has at least eight to ten inches of New Orleans Saints jersey
2. room and a removable top. Make sure it is enclosed, but has a small opening for the female gecko to move in and out of the nest. You should also include a minimum of 40 percent moistened vermiculite.
3. After you have prepared the space and have ensured you have the right couple to breed, you need to place them in the same cage. Some times they will mate right away, while others will take their time. Just plan on waiting a few hours to a few days prior to them actually beginning the mating process. If you notice that the male becomes aggressive towards the female, this is completely normal and part of the breeding leopard gecko process. He may bite her, snip at her, and he is testing to see if she bites back. If she does bite him back, then she is not ready to mate. Do not fear if they seem to be fighting, this is part of the courting process.
4. After a few days if your lizards have not begun to mate, then separate them and try again in a few days. You will find times during breeding leopard geckos that they may not be interested in mating right away or within that month. This is completely normal and should not discourage you.

5. males from females, just flip over the gecko. A male will have two hemipenal bulges just below the tail vent and it will be shaped like a "V" between the hind legs.
Though the process can be difficult at first, you will become a breeding leopard gecko expert before you know it. It is all a process of trial and error.
