Clarett to work out for UFL’s Nighthawks on Sunday

Former Ohio State star running back Maurice Clarett has been granted permission by a judge following a stint in jail to travel outside of the state of Ohio to audition for the Omaha Nighthawks, a UFL expansion franchise.

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel lobbied the judge on nfl jerseys Clarett's behalf.

Nighthawk general manager Randy Mueller announced that that the workout is set for Sunday in Omaha., which will be closed to the media.

"The level of success of the workout will determine whether or not a contract will be offered," Mueller said.

Earlier this week, Mueller issued the following statement about Clarett:

"Maurice Clarett has paid his debt to society and through recent conversations with Maurice, his lawyer and his family, we believe he is sincerely working at turning his life around," Mueller said. "Because we believe everyone deserves a second chance, and because Maurice wants to Seahawks jersey see whether he can still play the game he loves, we’ve agreed to work Maurice out as soon as the Ohio courts allow.

"There are no commitments other than we want to help him take positive steps towards being the good citizen and solid family man that he aspires to be. Omaha Nighthawks staff, coaches and players will not comment further on this matter."

The Nighthawks also have Omaha native and former Nebraska star running back Ahman Green(notes) on the roster.

Clarett is a former Denver Broncos third-round draft pick who was a bust during his brief stint in the NFL before getting into trouble with the law.

Clarett's connection to the Nighthawks is through Ted Sundquist, the former Broncos Chargers jersey general manager who's now the director of player personnel in Omaha.

In 2002, Clarett rushed for 1,237 yards and 18 touchdowns as Ohio State won the national championship.

Now, he's getting another chance a rung below the NFL.
